Leaders and citizens of Nigeria must sacrifice and pursue the causes of the masses for desirable growth of the country, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit has advised.
The group spoke in an Eid-el-Kabir message signed by its President, Kaamil Kalejaiye.
While congratulating Muslims on the Eid, Kalejaiye urged leaders at all levels to emulate the sacrificial actions of Prophet Muhammed (SAW).
He emphasised that good leadership was key to the development of any nation, saying, "It is not enough to celebrate without taking into cognisance the lessons from what brought about today.
"We all have a reason to celebrate because of the sacrificial attribute of noblest Prophet Muhammed (SAW). This is the kind of attribute we also expect from our leaders. If they sacrifice and sincerely work for the advancement of this country, then we will also have the cause to celebrate Nigeria's advancement."
He also sought an end to the numerous killings in the country, adding that members of the Boko Haram sects should embrace peace as preached by Islam.
"Islam is a religion of peace. It is a perfect religion that devoids violence. Any group that kill people for any unjust reason can never be islamic and this is why we call on terrorists and sects in the country to desist from their ungodly acts," he added.
